A brand new event, partly put together by the Bluesfest team, will take place over the October long weekend.

This afternoon Director of the Byron Bay Bluesfest Peter Noble and Bundjalung woman, leading Cultural Creative and festival Director & Curator Rhoda Roberts have proudly announced the brand new Boomerang Festival to take place at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm site this October.

The three-day camping festival will be a multi-arts event and looks to embrace the social, cultural and the spiritual aspects of Australia's First peoples' traditional lives and contemporary practices from across the globe.

The cultural exchange will allow people to experience different cultures through traditional and contemporary music, with some of the world's oldest instruments, dance and rituals on show as well as some workshops that will focus on mother tongues and first instruments. The fesetival will also feature “daring workshops, and ideas, forums and intergenerational exchange programs.”

Festival director Rhoda Roberts says the mix of language and ancient traditional practices will make this a truly unique event.

“Language, it has been said, is the light of the mind, combine that with the revitalisation and the return of some ancient traditions and practices from an eclectic  line up of artists and you have a unique festival experience,” she said.

Peter Noble expressed his pride and excitement that the Bluesfest site could be used

“This is a special moment for me personally, and for us all – hosting a significant cultural event on the Bluesfest site which is actually Bundjalung country not only makes sense, but makes me proud,” he said. “Through the healing of music, the rhythm of language and the power of dance, it's time to have fun and gather as we recognise the similarities we all share,”

Christine Anu, Leah Flanagan, Thelma Plum, Tjupurru and Airileke all played as part of a showcase performance to celebrate this new event.

The festival will take place at the Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm from Friday 4 October to Sunday 6.
