More Tim Freedman More Tim Freedman

A new bar opening in the Sydney suburb of Balmain has enlisted some very special guests to help them christen the premises when they open their doors next month.

The Workers, which is located on Darling St in Balmain, is to be officially opened by none other than legendary ex-Prime Minister Bob Hawke at its launch event. The poster for the event credits him as “Our Greatest Ever Prime Minister”, before clairifying this is merely the opinion of The Workers management and doesn't necessarily reflect the political stance of the entire Balmain community.

Also on board for the event is The Whitlams' frontman and solo artist in his own right, Tim Freedman, who will be performing a set at the opening event, which takes place at the bar on Wednesday 26 September.

Hawke, who was PM from 1983 to 1991, has long been known for his fond appreciation of a drink and even at the ripe age of 82 has proven he can mix it with the best of them, the proof is here in this sensational performance at the Sydney Cricket Ground earlier this year.
