Bloc Party ProfileBloc Party's frontman Kele Okereke has hinted that their new album Four could be their last as he revealed that the main driving force behind the record's inception was a feeling of 'unfinished business' rather than pushing the band's sound forward.
The London indie pioneers took a break in 2009 prompting many to believe that they'd broken up. Writing for the new album - their fourth - then happened in secret as the band tried to mend broken relationships.
"When we took a break in 2009 I was in the mindset that we were done," Okereke told the latest edition of triple j mag. "Our relationships were in such a difficult place that this was it, this was the end."
He said that Four was a record that "needed" to be made if the band - who played Splendour In The Grass last weekend - was to be saved, but couldn't guarantee that there was any future beyond current plans.
"I don't know where we'll go from here," he said. "I don't know what will happen. But I know if this is the last thing we ever do, then we've done everything I wanted to do."
He added that the band were unlikely to tour beyond this year's commitments.
"I'm in a good place - we all are - and touring turns you upside down."
When theMusic.com.au caught up with Bloc Party in Brisbane for a photo shoot last week the band were in good spirits and there were no signs of tension between members, which has previously been present. You can see shots from the photoshoot here.
