Fanning addresses "the complete failure of political leadership in this country.”

Queenslander Bernard Fanning was playing to a rain-soaked crowd at the Melbourne Zoo last night as the results for his state's election began coming through.

The former Powderfinger leader was obviously pleased when it was reported that LNP Queensland Premier Campbell Newman had lost his seat in the snap election.

Delivered the news on stage, Fanning said it "fills me with joy".

Earlier in the evening Fanning had unveiled a new political song that he performed with his support act Little May.

Fanning described the song, called Belly Of The Beast, as “addressing the complete failure of political leadership in this country.”

Newman has since announced that he will exit politics as the overall Queensland election result remains on a knife-edge.
