Revered German composer and pianist Nils Frahm is returning to Australia in 2018 for a performance at the Melbourne Festival — the first event of 2018's program to be announced.

The musician will be back in the country in support of his critically acclaimed latest album All Melody.

"Nils Frahm is an artist who defies all categorisation, equally as comfortable filling a recital hall as a dancefloor," Melbourne Festival Artistic Director, Jonathan Holloway said.

"We are thrilled to have him perform as part of our 2018 program, and anyone who has caught Frahm live knows that this will be a wall-shaking, roof-raising affair."
