The tune famous for soundtracking buffoonery was caught on multiple news crosses.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced his resignation yesterday after a revolt from Parliament leaders.

Those who travelled past the Westminster building in which he resigned were treated to The Benny Hill theme song playing through speakers outside before and after the resignation. It was caught on multiple news crosses.

Actor Hugh Grant was behind the song choice, with the Notting Hill star tweeting at activist Steve Bray asking him if he had the soundtrack "on hand".

The activist replied by Tweeting, "Just for @HackedOffHugh as requested here today at the media circus… College Green. The Benny Hill theme tune."

Boris Johnson was a highly controversial politician, being undone by a "straw that broke the camels back" moment whenm he appointed a politician who had been accused of sexual misconduct.

He immediately stepped down as the Conservative Party leader and will remain in office as prime minister until the party chooses a new leader.

“In the last few days, I tried to persuade my colleagues that it would be eccentric to change governments when we’re delivering so much and when we have such a vast mandate,” Johnson said publicly.

“I regret not to have been successful in those arguments, and of course it’s painful not to be able to see through so many ideas and projects myself.”
