Baroness bus driver faces criminal charges

The bus driver responsible for a horrific crash that seriously injured members of metal band Baroness is now facing criminal charges relating to the incident.

The bus driver responsible for a horrific crash that seriously injured members of metal band Baroness is now facing criminal charges relating to the incident.

In August of last year, 39-year-old German national Norman Markus was driving the bus outside of Bath, England when the brakes apparently failed, forcing him to slam the vehicle into a guard rail in order to slow it. The bus then plummeted 30 feet from a viaduct, leaving nine injured, singer-guitarist John Baizley with a severely fractured arm and the driver in a critical condition.

It has now emerged that authorities are charging Markus with a series of offenses relating to dangerous driving, driving with defective breaks, breaching a 7.5-metric-ton weight limit and not having the correct license to drive the coach involved in the crash.

Markus will appear before the Bath Magistrates court on Friday, April 5. The band is yet to comment on the recent developments.
