If you've been on social media, primarily Facebook, you've probably seen hosts of bands critiquing Facebook's policy regarding the reach of pages.
Facebook requires the pages to pay for ads as well as single posts, which can really rack up, and it hinders the reach that pages have if you don't pay to have your updates "boosted". A change.org petition was created a couple weeks ago by Christopher Murray, the singer of US band Illuminate Me, who was fed up with having to pay thousands of dollars just to reach their own fan base. Below is a plea from Murray to any musician and small business owners to stand up against it.
"I urge every single musician or small business owner to share this petition around and sign it. If you have a photo of the ridiculous fee that Facebook is making you pay to "boost a post" then please post it as well. I have used social media to promote my bands in the past before, I've never had to pay anything let alone this much money just to talk to the people that love our music. Enough is enough, let's fight back. We want Facebook to remove having to pay to reach fans and followers. We are not money making machines, we are people. Facebook it is not your place to put a price on our fans eyes and ears."
You can add your name to the petition here. Below is just a few opinions from bands regarding the amount of money needed and its impact.
