Ash Pournouri, the former manager of Swedish electronic music producer Avicii (real name Tim Bergling), has revealed that he’s filing lawsuits against a documentary filmmaker “for the lies to stop and the facts to be known, once and for all.”
Pournouri was the manager for Avicii from the early days of his career until they parted ways in December 2016.
The Sweden Herald reports that Pournouri is suing Levan Tsikurishvili, who directed the 2017 documentary Avicii: True Stories.
According to the Swedish publication Expressen, Pournouri filed a lawsuit against Tsikurishvili with the Stockholm District Court this week and reportedly intends to pursue the case as a “private prosecution” against the director.
On LinkedIn and other social media channels, Pournouri made a public statement about the lawsuits and the alleged “lies and false accusations” he has endured in the years since Avicii’s tragic death in 2018.
He began the post by sharing the following quote often attributed to Mark Twain, “A lie can travel halfway around the world before the truth puts on its shoes.”

Pournouri continued, “Enough is enough.
“In a recent interview focusing on my current business ventures and what I have focused all my energy on building back up, I confirmed that the past few years have been hell for me and my family. I have endured a false external narrative which, out of respect for Tim’s memory and family, I have actively chosen not to engage in.
“That courtesy has not been extended to me. Lies and false accusations by certain individuals continue with the aim of causing me harm and to profit from a tragedy. Consequently, I have been left with no other choice but to file lawsuits with the main objective for the lies to stop and the facts to be known, once and for all.
“I will not make any further comments regarding this matter and will put my trust in the legal proceedings.”
Avicii died by suicide at the age of 28 while on holiday in Muscat, Oman, on April 20, 2018.
Just months before his death, the documentary Avicii: True Stories, directed by friend Levan Tsikurishvili, was released, which detailed his struggles with mental health that led him to cease touring in 2016.
Avicii - I'm Tim, a new documentary about the DJ, was released on Netflix at the end of 2024.
Director Henrik Burman said about the film: “My goal is to provide an honest and new perspective on both the artist Avicii and Tim’s life. I want this to be a film that surprises the audience and challenges the public’s image of Sweden’s biggest international artist of today and, in doing so, also shine a light on what his music has meant to so many people.”
