Five years on from his death at the age of 28, Tereza Caserova, the former girlfriend of Swedish DJ Avicii (real name Tim Bergling), has paid tribute to the EDM icon who found fame with tracks like Wake Me Up and Levels.

Posting a video of Bergling and her son to Instagram last week, Caserova reflected on an emotional moment at Tomorrowland in which one of the late DJ's tracks was played following his death.

"5 years ago today, you departed this realm. Last summer after Tomorrowland, my sister and I laughed as we showed someone a video of me saying 'anywayyy' and going back to dancing with tears streaming down my face because someone had just played your song... I will literally never in my life not cry at a festival again when they inevitably play one of your bangers," she wrote.

She went on to detail her devastating grief following Bergling's tragically young death via suicide while on holiday in Muscat, Oman, on April 20, 2018.

"I was for so long after you died, unable to just focus on how extraordinarily lucky I was to have gotten to spend that much time with you..." she continued.

Caserova also praised Bergling as "one of the most spectacular father figures" to her son, Luka.

"You were by far one of the kindest, purest, most loving people I've encountered. You were such  special man, Tim, and you were the opposite of what this harsh world tried to make of you and what a treasure we lost the day you decided it's harshness was too much."

"I wonder often if you have come back already...? (And if so, I hope you came back to parents that will treat you the way you always treated my baby.) ...Or are you the signs I keep getting that everything will be okay..?"

"Until we meet again," she concluded.

Members of the EDM community also paid tribute to Avicii on the fifth anniversary of his death, with Tomorrowland's One World Radio honouring his memory with Avicii Day, a full programme honouring his legacy.
