Australia Council Announces New Grant Program For Small Labels

At least three grants of $50,000 will be awarded

The Australia Council has announced a new grant scheme for small labels, The Recording Initiative, which will offer funding of up to $50,000 to support growth for smaller music businesses.

The Australia Council hopes that at least three of these grants will be awarded to eligible labels.

The Recording Initiative will cover costs associated with artist fees, recording, promotion and administration.

The new funding program is a result of the Australia Council consulting over the past year with AIR (Australian Independent Record Labels Association) as well as artists, industry organizations and labels themselves. The results of these discussions have been published as The Music Recording Report.

Today AIR said that the grant is, "A wonderful opportunity to receive government funding to further your capacity and output as a label. AIR commends the Australia Council for the work it has put into getting this pilot program running. We hope that the grant remains for many years beyond this initial pilot phase."

Applications are now open and will close on the 18th February 2013. Application forms and guidlines are here.
