Praise be - August just got a whole lot more miraculous
Long-lasting national treasures The New Christs will celebrate their return to home soil following their transcendent recent European tour with a run of east-coast shows in support of their recently released fifth studio full-length, Incantations.
Founding member and vocalist Rob Younger (he of Radio Birdman fame), long-time compatriots Jim Dickson (bass), Dave Kettley (guitar) and Brent Williams (keyboards/ guitar), and “new guy” drummer Paul Larsen will commence their triumphant run at Sydney’s Factory Floor on August 2 before stepping out for appearances in Castlemaine, Melbourne, Brisbane and Lismore, wrapping up at Newcastle’s Small Ballroom a few weeks later, on August 30.
Incantations, The New Christs’ first release in five years, was recorded by Midnight Oil’s Jim Moginie and mixed in the studios of the half-a-century-old Alberts production house, and from the get-go finds the ageing rockers – who recently took out the title of ‘best international live act’ in Spanish-language magazine Ruta 66 – in indisputably youthful form, the rambunctious opener Ghostlike setting the stage for a set of songs that simply cry out to be experienced in the flesh.
They’ll be joined for their Sydney show by Johnny Casino and The Escarpment, with Don Fernando stepping in for both Castlemaine and Melbourne, the latter of which will see Grindhouse also step into the support role. However, while the incendiary Hits will open up in Brisbane alongside another as-yet unnamed act, openers for the remainder of the tour are yet to be announced.
