Police are investigating.

At least 12 people, including two Australian women, have been injured after a man sprayed acid inside an east London nightclub early Monday morning.

According to BBC, Mangle E8 nightclub was evacuated after the attack, which is believed to have started following a dispute between two groups.

Ten of the injured have been treated for minor injuries, while the remaining two, reported to be in their 20s, are in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

"The only information that we have is that it was an unknown corrosive substance thrown within the nightclub," a London Fire Brigade spokesperson said.

Sydney Morning Herald have since reported that the two Australians injured in the attack have been identified as Sydney locals and sisters, Isobella and Prue Fraser.

Isobella suffered burns on her arm and on her back, while Prue was burnt on her arm.

"I couldn't breathe," Isobella said of the attack.

"I thought we were getting gassed, I thought it was a terrorist attack or something… I was freaking out just because of all the things that have been happening.

"I actually couldn't breathe and I was coughing, and yeah, I just felt this thing on my arm, and I realised it was some sort of acid. It was pretty crazy."

Mangle management took to Facebook to address the attack earlier today.

"We are currently cooperating with the Metropolitan Police's investigation into an incident that occurred on Monday morning," the statement reads.

"At this stage, we cannot offer any further comment."
