61.6% of voters chose YES!
After months and $122 million spent on a very divisive postal vote, the result of the marriage equality has been handing down with 61.6% of the country voting YES.
Just over 79% of eligible voters voted in the survey, with every state and territory recording a majority yes vote.
Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has said "The people of Australia have spoken and I intend to make their wish the law of the land by Christmas. This is an overwhelming call for marriage equality," while Opposition Leader Bill Shorten has responding saying that "Today we celebrate, tomorrow we legislate."
Musicians around the world have been quick to share their support and excitement of the result.

Australians, we got it right. A massive relief & vindication for dear family members, friends and the community #marriageequaility - now for contructive, reasonable legislation. And no discrimination.
