Aussie Grunge Rockers Molly Rocket Release Raging Debut EP 'Syrup'

Aussie alt-rock/grunge outfit Molly Rocket have just released their debut EP, Syrup, which is the perfect title for a band that experiments with sugary sweet vocal melodies counteracting with sticky, thrilling guitars, and pounding drums.

Since their formation a little over a year ago, Molly Rocket – Joseph Keating, Liam Garvey, Ben Main and Georgie Evans – have channelled the energy of Violent Soho (RIP), Teen Jesus & The Jean Teasers and the Pixies, providing a fresh presence in Australia’s rock and punk music scene.

“The most simple summarisation of the abstract alternative rock EP titled Syrup is darkness through a rose-coloured lens,” Evans offered in a press release.

Evans continued, “It's appealing aesthetically and acts as a warm orange glaze atop the noise, and the topics of death, murder, isolation and lost youth. 

"This debut summarises the deeper angst and melancholy underneath Molly Rocket, as well as showcasing their diverse sound which utilises elements from grunge rock, punk rock, Aussie surf rock alongside a pop undertone.”

Syrup was recorded at Depict Studios with the tracks mixed and mastered by long-term collaborator Lachy Pitcher (Hindsight, Towns, Pinkish Blu). 

Syrup opens with the powerful Rabbit Hole, which is a “warped descent into insanity where reality bends and confusion runs supreme”. Molly Rocket follow that up with Sick Puppy, a track that immediately changes gears with Evans stepping back from vocals and Ben Main leading.

Closing out the 5-track power-packed EP is never before heard Bones, more upbeat and pulled back than its predecessors it again features vocals from Main. Trading the frenetic pace for a more leisurely verse they deliver a hard-hitting chorus expected in any great Molly Rocket track.
