The winning track received close to double the number of votes as the second-placed song.
In honour of RTRFM's 45th anniversary, the Perth community radio station has revealed the results of its publicly voted '45 Greatest WA Songs' countdown, with The Triffids' iconic Wide Open Road taking out the #1 spot.
The winning track received close to double the number of votes as the second-placed song, Leaving Home by Jebediah.
Then followed The Kill Devil Hills third with their 2004 released Drinking Too Much, above early favourite Elephant, by Fremantle's Tame Impala, which placed fourth.
More than 17,000 votes were cast by 2,000+ individuals in advance of the special anniversary broadcast, with listeners able to select from a ‘Top 250’ shortlist curated by RTRFM presenters and music industry experts.
The most recently released track in the Top 45 was 2020 punk tune WAXIT by Dennis Cometti, while the oldest was Television Addict by The Victims, released in 1977, the year of RTRFM's inception.
