A new music licensing system to launch next week promises to benefit local musicians and songwriters by streamlining "the administration of licence payments for any Australian businesses playing music".
Set to go live on 1 July, OneMusic Australia vows to simplify copyright compliance for over 100,000 premises around the country, including festivals, bars, shops, gyms, restaurants and more.
The new system comes on the back of extensive work over the past two years between PPCA and APRA AMCOS.
“By simplifying and unifying music copyright management, OneMusic will make compliance easier and make sure rights holders are fully remunerated for both rights when their music is played in public," APRA AMCOS Chief Executive Dean Ormston said.
“We know many businesses found it hard to deal with two separate rights organisations and some neglected their obligations altogether. A simple, single, easy-to-use system will significantly reduce the administration burden for everyone."
PPCA CEO Dan Rosen added, “This is an important step to simplify the process of using music for tens of thousands of businesses around Australia and continue our work in supporting innovation and creativity for the Australian music industry."
