Did you know: Apocalyptica started as a Metallica cover band?

More Apocalyptica More Apocalyptica

A long way from their start as a symphonic Metallica cover band 20 years ago, metal-cello four-piece Apocalyptica have announced an Australian east coast tour for this August.

The Finnish group have gone beyond their novelty tag of four metal dudes playing cellos and rocking-out with some classic Euro-metal moves to a career that has seen them work with some of the biggest names in mainstream metal.

Touring on the back of their latest album, 2010's 7th Symphony, that album alone had guest vocals from Gavin Rossdale (Bush), Brent Smith (Shinedown) and Joe Duplantier (Gojira) amongst others.

They took an interesting approach to the record, as songwriter Eicca Toppinen can explain: "We decided to play it naked. It was a moment where there were four guys naked in the room just playing acoustic music. Being naked always brings good feelings. Immediately, it was much more fun.”
