Roots muso Xavier Rudd has been in the midst of some controversy over the last week, since his fans got wind of the KFC TV advertisement featuring his song, Let Me Be; the endorsement seemingly clashing with his past condemnation of animal cruelty and support of animal rights issues.

The fried chicken behemoth uses Rudd's song to illustrate a summer's day playing backyard cricket with family, with some KFC on the table to dig into.

In 2008, Rudd was crowned Australia's Sexiest Vegetarian, in addition to picking up a Rock The Boat award the following year from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society.

Rudd has been copping criticism and many questions from his fans on his Facebook for the use of the song, from some asking "i just wanted to ask you straight up, how KFC stole your music brother?? Just know a lot of people might be confused, but I, and we, believe in you, to the core!"

Others meanwhile show their disappointment: "So when do we get a statement as to why your music is used on a fast food chain's advertisement?" and "here's your cheque, there goes your credibility, Xavier Rudd'."

Another big reason why people may take offence to Rudd's music being featured in the advertisement is PETA's campaign against KFC's treatment of chickens, Kentucky Fried Cruelty, which was launched in 2001.

The Music is awaiting comment from Rudd and has contacted PETA for a statement.
