Alice CooperAlice Cooper is set to release the “definitive autobiography” about his “evilution” this October. And somehow, the book isn’t being released on Halloween.
Devil On My Shoulder will be released via Ebury Spotlight on Tuesday, 6 October, in the US, and Thursday, 8 October in the UK (and hopefully across the globe). You can pre-order a copy here.
The book will explore the shock-rock icon’s “harrowing journey to Hell and back” and examine the two figures central to who the musician is today: “the deeply religious sober man behind the mask and the Godfather of Shock Rock.”
Additionally, the book features “witty, intimate anecdotes” from the likes of John Lennon, Frank Sinatra, Bette Davis, Bob Hope, Jimi Hendrix, Andy Warhol, Tiger Woods, and others as Cooper lifts the veil on his life as “an acute observer of dysfunction and despair, wildness and criminality, urges and addictions, transgressions and human goodness.”

He explained, “I’ve written this book to track Alice’s ‘evilution’, and how I’ve tamed him at last. Just as he and I became almost fatally intertwined, the story of Alice Cooper after over thirty records and sixty-plus years has become a tangle of embellishments, elaborations and outright fabrications, and I think it’s time to sort reality from myth.”
Cooper added, “I was born Vincent Damon Furnier, but seduced by my character’s reputation, changed my name legally to Alice Cooper, and in the process lost sight of who I really was. The mild-mannered, all-American boy I’d once been became a monster and a mortal danger to himself.”
In addition to releasing Devil On My Shoulder, Cooper will embark on an eight-date book tour across the UK this October, with dates in Cardiff, Cambridge, London, Brighton, Manchester, Stockton, Glasgow, and Wolverhampton.
If you’re planning on a trip to the UK in October, pre-sale tickets to the events are available here.
Publishing Director Charlotte Hardman said of the book, “We are delighted to be publishing Alice Cooper’s autobiography, and as a music icon with a career spanning six decades, what a remarkable life story it is.
“In this brilliantly written and vividly told memoir, he is incredibly honest about the push and pull of the two sides to his life. This is Alice Cooper as his fans have never heard him speak before.”
