Ali Barter To Hit Up East Coast Of Australia This December

More like awesome bits

More Ali Barter Ali Barter

Melbourne musician Ali Barter has announced her national ‘Girlie Bits’ tour and will be headlining shows in Berry, Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne in December.

The former triple j Unearthed winner’s tour will likely sound much like her latest single (that shares the tour’s title), Girlie Bits. The feminist anthem was written out of Barter’s frustration at female musicians being trivialised and being seen as just a girl singing a song. The song resembles a polished version of both the message and sound of punk women of the '70s and '80s or Riot Grrrl bands such as Bikini Kill and Bratmobile of the 1990s.

Barter says of the song, "Women are not some gentle, watered down version of men. We do it our own way. We work really hard to write good songs and play great gigs - only to have people critique our clothes and the look on our faces, instead of the music."

The tour will possibly feature some new material with Barter confirming she’s working on a new album. She will also be performing next week at the 10 Years of triple j Unearthed party at the State Library Of Victoria as part of Aus Music Month/Face The Music.
