More Alex Lahey Alex Lahey

Alex Lahey has released an ultra-catchy new single, Shit Talkin'.

The track is her second offering of 2022, following the critically acclaimed Congratulations, which received plays by BBC Radio from 6 Music icon Steve Lamacq plus spins from German stations DLF NOVA, Flux, and BR Puls. Locally, the single is on high rotation on triple j and landed at #1 Most Played on the station for back-to-back weeks. The most notable news about the song, though, is Lahey played for fans who had a surprise wedding during her Congratulations tour at Melbourne's Corner Hotel gig.

Shit Talkin' is about anxiety, "about people pleasing, social anxieties and irrational thinking. We've all been there, and I wrote this song in an attempt to shake it all off," Lahey revealed.

Like the rest of the Melbourne artist's catalogue, Lahey returns with familiar punchy hooks, anthemic exclamations and playful lyricism about darker moments in human existence.

Lahey recently wrapped up her first Australian tour since 2019 and opened for the pop-punk group The Regrettes in the US and the indie-rock group Manchester Orchestra in the UK, the latter of whom has worked with the Best Of Luck Club producer Catherine Marks.

"Two of my exes got engaged within an improbably short space of time of one another. What are the odds? I couldn't not write a song inspired by it," Lahey explained about Congratulations.

Self-described as 'deeply unhinged, the video shows Lahey on her wedding day getting ready to exchange vows with... herself, before running out of the church to be with her true love... also herself, before passionately making out.

She also signed with Liberation Records last year, a decision she was "incredibly honoured" by.

Liberation managing director Damien Slevison shared his excitement about the signing news by saying, “We're thrilled to add an artist and person of Alex's quality to our roster.

"She's been one of the country's most successful and respected indie artists in recent years, and we really look forward to working with her on this exciting next period of her career."
