Alberts have today announced the signing of start producer/songwriter Jean Paul Fung to represent his songwriting worldwide.
The 24-year-old, who first came to prominence as Sydney's now-defunct Big Jesus Burger, has become one of the indie-rock scene's most in-demand producers in recent years. He has produced Last Dinosaur's In a Million Years and Glass Towers' Halycon Days, which were both triple j feature albums, while having also worked with Birds Of Tokyo and Little Red.
“JP's pedigree as a producer speaks for itself,” Alberts' Head of Development, Creative Services, Michael Szumowski said today. “We look forward to working with him to develop his songwriting opportunities both locally and internationally.”
During his time as an in-house engineer at Big Jesus Burger Fung worked with Chris Coady, Richard Wilkinson, Eric J Dubowsky and Wayne Connolly amongst others.
In a recent interview with theMusic.com.au, Glass Towers frontman Ben Hannam described Fung as a genius.
“Most of the songs we took into the studio were already so old,” he said. “They were like our babies. It was really hard having to work on them when you already love them so much.
“We worked with Wayne Connelly on our first EP and he was more concerned with making the EP sound beautiful, while JP [Jean-Paul Fung] took a more hands-on role. We'd be in the studio and JP would tell us, 'You can make this sound so much better by doing this.' He's a genius.”
