Look, we hate to admit it, but sometimes (read: pretty well all the time) mainstream music awards really kind of mess up their nominees and the genres or categories that songs/artists should be in. Unfortunately a lot of the time it results in bands winning the categories that really... they probably shouldn't be in. Not so much with this year's AIR Awards, they really did nail down a pretty sick cross-section of the heavy and punk genres for the nominations. Check them out!
Nice work, AIR Awards - the genres/categories are spot on and genuinely, a pretty great spread of the Independent Australian heavy and punk releases that dropped in 2021 that deserve a look in!
Any albums or EPs missing here from 2021's releases that you reckon deserved a nom?

The 2022 AIR Awards will be held at the Freemasons Hall, Adelaide onThursday 4th August 2022 as an invite-only event.
Here's what the AIR website said about the event for the Awards:
"The AIR Awards will be held in conjunction with AIR’s annual Indie-con Australia conference (Wednesday 3rd to Friday 5th August) – program and tickets will be released next month. South Australian Minister for Arts, Andrea Michaels MP, said the AIR Awards is a prominent event in Australia’s music calendar. “The South Australian Government, through the Music Development Office and Events South Australia, is proud to be a major partner for AIR’s Indie-Con Australia Conference and 2022 AIR Awards show and to host this key event on the national music industry calendar right here in Adelaide – Australia’s only UNESCO City of Music. “Music – be it recorded or live – plays such a huge part of our lives, and has a significant impact on our culture, wellbeing and on our economy. I would like to congratulate the nominees this year and look forward to welcoming delegates from around the country back to Adelaide.” “We look forward to welcoming our members and speakers to Adelaide for the 2022 Indie-Con Australia Conference and AIR Awards and thank the South Australian Government for their continued support” – Maria Amato, AIR CEO
