Davey Havok and Jade Puget present XTRMST

More AFI More AFI

Davey Havok and Jade Puget, the respective frontman and guitarist for turn-of-the-century punk pioneers AFI, have announced their new straight-edge hardcore project, XTRMST, replete with debut release details for good measure.

Taking to the former band's Facebook page early this morning (AEST), Havok and Puget made public the philosophy behind XTRMST, which is explicitly steeped in straight-edge culture, and revealed that their first output, lead single Conformist, will be available for purchase from this coming Tuesday, October 7, with a full-length digital and vinyl LP to follow on November 18.

"The straightedge philosophy is something that we gravitated toward at a young age, drawn by concepts and ideals that seem almost foreign in modern society," the band wrote in their introductory post. "Like much of the other subcultures we were a part of growing up, it put us at odds with 99% of the people around us, which was something we embraced. It seemed natural that this crucial ideology would find a musical expression.

"This record is one of the most important we've made," they continued. "The songs are of purity, passion and truth. May they speak to you."

The band has put up a preview track, Words For The Unwanted, over on SoundCloud, and if you were at all a fan of AFI during their "Misfits tribute band"/Very Proud Of Ya era, you'll probably find more joy in this one XTRMST song than you've found in anything AFI has put out in the past decade.

Read the band's full post below, grab your Sharpies, and mark your calendars (and the back of your hands) in preparation.
