In a big win for the Peel Street nightlife, cars will be unable to use the laneway during summer weekends as City of Adelaide looks to attract more punters to the area.

As ABC reports, the CBD laneway that hosts a slew of small bars and restaurants - and is around the corner from music venue Zhivago - will have a vehicle ban between Thursdays and the early hours of Mondays.

In 2014 a similar trial proved a 30 per cent rise in pedestrian traffic while (obviously) cutting down altercations between vehicles and punters, with one bar owner reportedly seeing numerous as of late.

Kaffana owner Peter Vukic told ABC the previous trial “created a very vibrant time”.

“People staying here a longer period of time and all the traders benefited from having this type of closure,” Vukic said.

The city has no plans to close other laneways at this stage.
