Abbey Road Studios Set To Launch Educational Institute Down Under

The famed UK studios are diversifying into delivering courses on production and sound engineering

Globally renowned recording house Abbey Road Studios has announced an expansion of its interests into the educational arena, with the impending launch of the Abbey Road Institute officially getting under way around the world, and Australian branches in Melbourne and Sydney set to open this September.

The Institute will also expand into Berlin and Munich in addition to its Australian branches later this year, but before any of that starts to happen, we'll see its first iteration housed in the north London studios famed for being The Beatles' production haunt of choice, with purpose-build classroom and studio facilities in the pipeline as part of Abbey Road's educational foray. Further international locations are yet to be announced, but are planned.

Designed for students aged 18 and up, the Abbey Road Institute will offer 12-month advanced diplomas in music production and sound engineering, as well as studio management and music business administration, with courses offering theoretical and practical bases from which to build the skills necessary for a production career, and delivered under the guidance of experienced, knowledgeable, practiced experts.

"Abbey Road Institute benefits from the studios' 80 years of audio expertise, distilling some of our knowledge into a curriculum of classroom learning and practical studio experience," Abbey Road senior director of engineering Peter Cobbin said in a statement. "I'm delighted that the Institute will nurture and inspire a new generation of audio professionals."

Details regarding the Abbey Road Institute's plans to head Down Under are still largely under wraps, outside of knowing that Sydney and Melbourne are the lucky destinations to house the new concern, but a dedicated announcement regarding the Australian branches is expected within a week.

Take a look at the finer points of what the Abbey Road Institute has to offer at its (London) website; the Aussie sites will be live in the near future, according to a message on the page.
