Sydney is home to a brand-new music venue and late-night bar, The Press, and it opens this week.
Opening its doors to the public this Friday (12 September), Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes takes viewers on a journey in a new video posted to social media, letting punters in the doors and feeling the atmosphere of The Press.
Punters can find the venue “behind an unmarked door” on 1 Bridge Lane and discover a venue where the owners have honoured the building’s press printing past with a luscious, warm space.
Inspired by the chance to provide some escapism to punters, there are comfortable-looking sofas and stools scattered throughout the room, gorgeous chandeliers, intricate designs on the roof, a wraparound bar, a private lounge area with a dedicated bar and karaoke, an intimate stage, and mood lighting, all setting the scene for a must-attend new venue.
Hemmes and The Press captioned the video walkthrough post on social media, “Welcome to The Press. A very special and nostalgic project for us. We’ve poured our heart and soul into it. A gift to Sydney and the live music scene. We hope you enjoy it.”

Following its launch this Friday, The Press will be open from Wednesday to Saturday from 5 pm until 2 am. The venue will host its own house band that will perform each night, offering jazz, soul, funk, and disco, with DJs keeping the energy going throughout the evening.
The Press has a “smart, stylish” dress code to go with its upmarket vibe, and t-shirts will only be welcome with a smart jacket. Punters will be able to order house martinis, wine, champagne, spirits and cocktails while the music plays.
