'A Complete Unknown', 'Wicked' Nominated For 2025 Oscars

The Timothée Chalamet-starring Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown, and Wicked, featuring actress and singer Ariana Grande, have been nominated for multiple awards at this year’s Oscars, including Best Picture.

The 97th Academy Awards will take place on Sunday, 2 March, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

An impressive year for Chalamet; two films he leads have been nominated for Best Picture – the sci-fi epic Dune: Part Two is also up for the prestigious nod. He’s also been nominated for Best Actor (for A Complete Unknown), while Grande’s co-star, Cynthia Erivo, has been nominated for Best Actress. Chalamet’s co-star, Edward Norton, has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, and Grande has received a nod in the Best Supporting Actress category.

Wicked and A Complete Unknown aren’t the only films with musical moments nominated for Oscars this year. There’s also the prison drama and musical Sing Sing and the musical crime comedy film, Emilia Pérez.

In the music categories, The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot have been nominated for Best Original Score (unfortunately, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross’ work on Challengers missed the cut), Emilia Pérez has two songs in the Best Original Song category, and Elton John has one (Never Too Late from his concert/documentary film of the same name). The Best Sound category also features the Chalamet double-header of A Complete Unknown and Dune: Part Two, as well as Emilia Pérez, Wicked, and The Wild Robot.

Responding to the news of her nomination, Ariana Grande thanked The Academy for the “unfathomable recognition,” writing that she’s “humbled and deeply honoured” to be in brilliant company.
