Other than Winona Ryder and Matthew Modine, the overwhelming majority of the cast from Stranger Things will have been unknown to most people before the smash hit show aired earlier this year. Now Shannon Purser who played Babara is our style icon, Galen Matarazzo who played Dustin is our favourite disability advocate and Millie Bobby Brown, the titanic talent behind Eleven, is 2016’s ultimate breakout star.
Season 2 is upping the celebrity factor with some newly announced cast members joining the familiar faces of Hawkins. Sean Astin of The Goonies fame (and yes, Lord Of The Rings too) brings some bona fide ‘80s authenticity to the show as Bob Newly, a former schoolmate of Joyce Byers (played by Ryder) and Sheriff Hopper (David Harbour). A former geek, Bob is now the manager of the local RadioShack.
Paul Reiser (Mad About You, Beverly Hills Cop, Aliens) is another Hollywood connection for the Netflix Original production, as the show’s latest villain. He will play Dr. Owens, another evil scientist of the Department of Energy tasked with “containing” the fallout from Season 1’s cross-dimensional shenanigans.
Staying true to its roots, the third new cast member announced today is a total newcomer: young Danish talent Linnea Berthelsen. She will play Roman, an emotionally damaged misfit with a complicated past. She should fit right in in Hawkins.
