ARIA will now issue awards instantly
Australian artists who top the ARIA Albums or Singles chart will be awarded with their #1 Chart Award instantly under a new approach by ARIA, which has today retrospectively provided 22 artists and releases with their trophies.
Traditionally ARIA issued the #1 Chart Awards at irregularly-held ceremonies, but will now move to instant recognition.
In the last 18 months since awards were last issued, local acts have spent 34 weeks topping either the album or singles charts. During the same period 82 singles and 66 albums were accredited with gold (35,000), platinum (70,000) or multi-platinum (140,000 plus) sales.
“I'm delighted that we can celebrate their feats with an Award literally as they happen,” said ARIA CEO Dan Rosen, who will helm a panel discussion on the charts as part of Vivid In Conversation Thursday 29 May at Sydney's Museum Of Contemporary Art.

“We look forward to handing out many more awards to artists in the future.”
ARIA Chairman and Sony boss Denis Handlin added, “A key feature of ARIA's activities has always been to champion the development and success of recording artists. The ARIA #1 Chart Awards not only reflect the sales and chart successes achieved but also the great passion of fans right across the country for music.”
