"Our art music community grows more dynamic and more diverse year after year."

APRA AMCOS and the Australian Music Centre (AMC) have revealed the Art Music Awards will return in 2019, moving to a new home in Sydney.

The awards celebrate a diverse range of contemporary classical, jazz and experimental artists, composers and performers.

“Our art music community grows more dynamic and more diverse year after year, and we believe it was time for the Art Music Awards to reflect this change," John Davis, Australian Music Centre CEO, said.

"The magnificent Great Hall at Sydney University is imbued with a beautiful sense of history and prestige, so we felt it was appropriate to liberate our audience from the pews to better experience the evening’s fabulous live performance program, and to participate in this unique celebration of our rich art form.”

Finalists will be announced on Tuesday 16 July. Awards will be presented in 11 national categories, along with an award for each Australian state or territory, selected from one of the national categories.

The APRA Board of Directors will also present the newly named Richard Gill Award for Distinguished Services to Australian Music, named for noted conductor Gill who passed away in October last year.
