"A stronger and more vibrant contemporary music industry in South Australia.”

South Australia is fast becoming the country’s most vibrant and creative state, and with the nominees for the 2016
SAM Awards
dropping today, it’s clear the past 12 months have been intergral to that development.

Dropping their debut EP, Indie-rock powerhouse West Thebarton Brothel Party lead the charge with a whopping six nominations – including Best New Artist, Best Song, Best Release and Best Group - while hometown favourites Bad//Dreems, Tkay Maidza and score recognition for their relentless work ethic.

The shortlist nominees for the public voted genre categories have been named after punters had their say via theMusic.com.au, with beloved singer-songwriter Max Savage taking out nominations in the Rock, Blues/Roots and Country categories, joining Jesse Davidson, Mane and Motez who also scored praise from music lover around the country.

The recognition doesn’t stop with the artists, though, as some of the state’s best managers, event organisers and other creative types are up for awards, joining the inaugural Best Engineer and Best Studio categories.

The Chair of Music SA, Anne Wiberg said they were incredibly proud of the quality among the 2016 talent.

“The local music community has been a source of pride for our state for a long time now and we are indeed leading the way nationally with our commitment to improving and supporting the industry,” she said.

“In the last few years we have seen a significant investment into the industry by the State Government and there have been some important changes to legislation, but we are also seeing some fabulous new talent and entrepreneurship which is all contributing to a stronger and more vibrant contemporary music industry in South Australia.”

The SAM Awards ceremony will be held at The Norwood Concert Hall on Nov 11 with hosts and the live music line-up to be announced in the coming weeks.
