A marketing presence will be the only foothold MTV retains in the Australian market after its parent Viacom announced that MTV and Comedy Central broadcast operations will be moved to London.
In a statement, published by Mumbrella, the company said they were “in the final stages of centralizing broadcast operation functions for AU/NZ, and today entered into an employee consultation process to centralise MTV and Comedy Central editorial functions out of London. Departments with roles being centralised include programming, production, creative, production management, research, operations and acquisitions.”
The statement added that approximately 15 positions of the 100-strong local workforce would be impacted by the operation.
Last year the company had outlined plans to expand their business in the territories, despite a number of redundancies in 2011.
