Oh Pep!, E^st, Mallrat and more
Blink-182 — California (Vagrant)
Their first album in five years and first with Matt Skiba is "a Blink record through and through", with Skiba's contributions helping "swerve the band towards slightly new territory". "She's Out Of Her Mind and The Only Thing That Matters recall Enema and Dude Ranch days" and the band seem to have "a weight lifted off their shoulders". We gave it four stars and our Album Of The Week.
Liz Stringer — All Of The Bridges (Vitamin)
Highly inspired by the city of Portland where she recorded the album, All Of The Bridges unleashes "her smoky voice upon a series of classic '70s- and '80s-sounding tracks". Keep On Keeping On is "Springsteen-esque blue collar narrative" while "Protecting Myself is a snarled look at the culture of greed". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.

Bat For Lashes — The Bride (Parlophone/Warner)
A concept record based around The Bride, this album utilises "the drama of Khan's ever-present breathy vocal [which] underlines the bride's current emotional state". With spoken word, "driving rhythms" and "right electronic and harp flourishes", Natasha Khan has "pushed her dreamy alternative musical soundscapes to another level". We gave it three-and-a-half stars.
