A week after Tim Shiel announced his shock departure from Double J Arvos after seven years of hosting the show, the radio station has revealed who will take the mantle.

Stacy Gougoulis is no stranger to Double J audiences (or triple j listeners). A music lover, Gougoulis has hosted triple j’s Weekend Breakfast for the past eight and a half years and promises to bring a high level of knowledge of music to Arvos – just like Tim did. Gougoulis will also interview Australian and international artists live on air, as well as play the tunes you love.

Gougoulis will wrap his final show on triple j’s Weekend Breakfast this Sunday (30 June) before starting his new gig at Double J Arvos on Monday (1 July) from 3 pm AEST.

Tim Shiel will host his final show on Double J tomorrow afternoon (27 June). Tune in from 3 pm to 6 pm to bid him farewell.

Shiel and Gougoulis’ movements follow a series of changes at triple j and Double J headquarters.

In December, Double J farewelled Mikaela Simpson, host of Stir It Up, and Rad Yeo, a fixture on Weekend Mornings.

In a poignant farewell, Richard Kingsmill hosted his final edition of The Funhouse at the end of 2023.

Double J also welcomed Dylan Lewis to host Double J Mornings while other hosts were shuffled around to different timeslots. You can find out more about their movements here.

Upon announcing his departure last week, Shiel wrote, “Double J - you are wonderful, and I’ve loved spending my afternoons with you. But I’m ready to take my afternoons back, and find out what happens next.

“In the short term, that involves spending a bunch more time hanging with my kids, and making music. Thanks for all your stories and your love over the years; the feeling is mutual.”

Double J celebrated its tenth birthday earlier this year by locking in Jay & The Doctor, reprising their 2000s triple j Breakfast show with Regurgitator, presenters Dylan LewisZan RoweKaren LengCaz TranHenry Wagons, and Tim Shiel, and artists such as Dan Sultan, Spiderbait, Sarah Blasko, Bad//Dreems, Adalita, Tim Rogers, Bag Raiders, Sarah Blasko, and many more honouring the station.

Osher Günsberg and Yumi Stynes reunited and reminisced over Big Day Out memories, and Rosie Beaton played your requests. The big day was sent off with an exclusive mix from Fatboy Slim.
