Luke Girgis is unveiling his first-ever book next week.

Known for founding and running The Brag Media, the Australian publisher of Rolling Stone and Variety, which he sold to Vinyl Group. Vinyl Group acquired The Brag Media in a $10 million deal which was announced in 2023 and closed in early 2024.

Girgis then ran the gourmet e-commerce business Providoor. He also runs the artist management company, Be Like Children, which represents creatives such as Simone Giertz and Anderson Burrus.

Girgis runs the publication, The Black Hoody, and founded operationalise.ai, in which “he and his team help executives rebuild the operating model of their business around AI workflows.”

Now, his first book, Death to the Org Chart: How to Build a Company So Lean Your Competitors Think You’re Cheating, will track his years of business experience.

In the book’s synopsis, Girgis claims that your company “does not have a revenue problem.”

He’ll explore what happens with businesses where revenue grows, but everything else seems to move slower. “That is not a talent problem. It is the cost of an operating model built for a world that no longer exists,” the synopsis reads.

In his debut book, Girgis is set to prove his outlook. He “shows leaders how to find the drag, redesign the work, and scale without adding layers. The future belongs to companies built around workflows, not org charts.”

On social media, he explained the concept further. “When I sold my business in 2024, we were publishing Rolling Stone and Variety in Australia and running at a margin below 4%,” he wrote.

He continued, “I was proud of the company we had built. But every time revenue grew, so did our org chart. It was the problem I never solved before the sale. Since then, I’ve spent most of my time inside startups and small businesses, applying the lessons I took from my media company.

“I took one business from losing $400,000 a month to breakeven within two years. My artist management company has removed around 80% of its admin work and I’ve helped several companies increase their marketing output without adding headcount.”

Adding that the technology to remove so much admin work is “cheap and getting cheaper,” Girgis admitted that the difficulty lies in “knowing which hours of somebody’s week are worth removing or automating.”

In his book, he “wrote down the method I use, and have saved millions using.”

Death to the Org Chart takes about 90 minutes to read. You don’t need technical knowledge. You just need to know how your business actually runs,” he continued.

“If you’re about to solve being busy by hiring someone, read this first. Growing your org chart in lockstep with your revenue will be the death of you.”
