Applications For VMDO's Fast Track Fellowship Closing Soon

If you’re eager to have your skills boosted as a music producer or engineer based in Victoria, then you might want to ensure that you’ve submitted your application for the Victorian Music Development Office’s (VMDO) Fast Track Fellowship.

Launching expressions of interest for its 2025 edition earlier this month, the fellowship is closing its applications on Friday, May 23rd, so potential applicants are urged to act fast.

The fellowship aims to provide life-changing opportunities for music professionals within Victoria while also providing a way for recipients to build and develop their skills in a way that expands pathways to build global networks, international experience and professional opportunities.

This year, the Fellowship is returning to offer this massive opportunity to a mid-career Victorian-based music producer or engineer, who works closely with musicians to help them achieve their artistic goals in the recording studio.

According to data featured in the inaugural 2023 survey from the Music Producer And Engineers’ Guild Of Australia (MPEG), close to 45% of music producers and engineers are based in Victoria, with the Australian recording sector considered to be one of the most vital components of Australia’s vibrant music scene.

Data from the same survey also revealed that 19% of respondents have plans to work overseas with 35% revealing aspirations of an international career, though many find themselves unsure of how to make their dreams a reality.

Delivered in partnership with the MPEG, the Fast Track Fellowship will see selected producers or engineers supported to participate in a bespoke program in the United Kingdom for two months. These Fellows will also have access to mentors, studios, industry events and be supported with travel logistics and accommodation for up to eight weeks

If you're eager to apply for the 2025 Fast Track Fellowship, expressions of interest are open now, with applications closing on Friday, May 23rd and the recipient being announced just next week. Successful applications will be required to take part in the Fellowship across July and August.

To be eligible for the Fellowship you need to be a resident of Victoria, a mid-career music producer or engineer, hold a current passport, be eligible for a United Kingdom Electronic Travel Authorisation, and also be able to make a personal financial contribution, including for required visas and insurances.
