This week Good Booking is taking over with Maxine Gillon, K Walsh + Ruby Jones
Melbourne-based artist Maxine Gillon has made a name for herself with her accomplished songwriting that showcases both her literate & abstract lyricism as well as her hypnotic & lush production arrangements. Across both vivacious pop songs and ethereal ballads, her inimitable sound draws from dream pop, indie rock, western twang & power pop elements.
Magically balancing the musical fault line that is big 60’s country melodies, troubadour lyricism, and the swirling tones of 90’s brit pop and psyche, calling Kev Walsh “diverse” would be an understatement. He has served up his heartbreakingly sad songs, stirred them down with flickers of dark and often dramatic comedy (cleverly masquerading as poetry), and poured them over both the Sydney and the Melbourne scenes.
Rapture, rebirth and kaleidoscopic desert dreamscapes etched across the undersides of her eyelids: Ruby Jones is ready and willing to take communion with the ghosts of her past.
Blending Jones' searing vocals with the kind of washed out, psychedelia-steeped sonic palette that pulls the heart from your fingertips, Jones' tempestuous brand of bliss is uniquely her own.
