Crown Ruler & Milo Eastwood presentGILLES PETERSON(UK)Gilles Peterson makes his long awaited return to Naarm / Melbourne for the first time in 5 years, backed by a stacked ensemble of forward-thinking trailblazers and sonic explorers. Friday November 21st, across Northcote Theatre and High Note - the radio renegade; one of our generation's most prolific tastemakers, returns at a time when his forty year-long vision of jazz and its translation into the club context could not be any more relevant. An unbridled celebration of eclecticism, connection and boundaryless music - in true GP fashion, we’re bridging sounds and communities for a very special dance extravaganza. Peterson’s return couldn’t be more timely. Jazz has re-entered the cultural mainstream - woven into a new generation of genre-blurring artists. It’s a shift Gilles has always pioneered. For over four decades, Gilles Peterson has ostensibly brought alternative music out of the club side rooms and into the popular consciousness. To put it simply he joins the dots. A master curator who has always demonstrated the connectivity and influence forged in dance movements. Peterson has been instrumental in reshaping the sound of alternative music - new music movements and new stars are often first discovered by his legion of cult followers worldwide. From pirate radio to his much lauded role broadcasting on the BBC, from influential club nights like Dingwalls & Bar Rumba to the scene defining We Out Here Festival, his reach has always been about musical freedom, and digging deeper.Joining Gilles is an all-star cast of innovative radicals and curious selectors.Hometown breakout sensations and psyche-jazz-rock-fusionists, Mildlife make a return to the venue they sold out only a year prior, while fellow globetrotting neo-soul powerhouse, Allysha Joy makes her way back to her 3070 postcode for her first Australian show after several months wowing audiences across the world.Keeping bodies sweaty and moving, NTS resident Anu (UK) makes her Naarm debut with her colourful palette of varied dance selections. Finally and fittingly, our own Gilles-inspired PBS tastemaker - Milo Eastwood will also take the helm with his deep bag of eclectic dance records - ensuring this is a party with diverse, quality music all the way through.Yes, we’re talking loud and saying something! - An all venue takeover that brings together multiple generations of music lovers - tracing the foundations of rare groove, acid jazz, acid house, jungle and drum & bass to their evolutionary spread of modern sub-genres that permeate today. This is for those curious and those who like to dance to something different. A celebration of where jazz meets club, where foundations connect with the future, and where music becomes a shared language.
