Australian music collective Bird’s Robe will kick off their 15th anniversary celebrations with a massive show at The Brightside in Brisbane on Friday, December 5.

Headlining the Brisbane event are alternative rock heavyweights COG, playing their first shows of 2025, alongside American cinematic rock icons Caspian, returning to Australia for the first time in over a decade.

Set across two stages - indoors and outdoors - the evening kicks off at 6pm and showcases a dynamic lineup from the Bird’s Robe family. Highlights include the long-awaited reunion of influential math-prog outfit Squat Club, as well as performances from local progressive rock favourites Hazards of Swimming Naked, Kodiak Empire - launching their new album The Great Acceleration - and Echotide, touring in support of their latest release DUSTWUN.

Lucius Borich from COG said of Bird’s Robe/Mike Solo: “For what he’s done for bands and artists and the independent music scene and industry, prog rock scene so to speak, it has been fantastic. You know, really been the artery to help things flow.”

The celebration also coincides with the release of the Bird’s Robe documentary series, which premiered its first episode last week. New episodes are set to drop fortnightly from July through December.

Bird’s Robe has long been a launchpad for some of Australia’s most acclaimed post-rock and progressive artists, including sleepmakeswaves, We Lost The Sea, Closure in Moscow, Toehider, Meniscus, The Crooked Fiddle Band, Troldhaugen, and Solkyri, among others.

Across its 15-year journey, the label has promoted more than 1,500 live shows and released over 200 records, including five ARIA-nominated albums and seven #1 releases on the Australian Independent Charts. Its catalogue has collectively amassed over 50 million streams, underscoring the label’s impact both locally and internationally.

Director Mike Solo says:

Ten years ago, on Saturday 5 December in 2015, a bunch of bands playing post-rock, prog, metal and alternative rock got together at Manning Bar in Sydney, Australia to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Bird’s Robe Records. It was awesome.

Since then, we’ve crossed the globe many more times, survived a global pandemic and come out the other side with even more talent to showcase from our little niche. So please join us to relive the memories, create new ones & celebrate an epic ride of prog, post rock, and otherwise innovative music with our friends & family.

If you’ve never had the chance to see some of these bands, we hope our efforts to bring them all together in the one place make for a worthy day/night of entertainment.

Enjoy!
