The countdown to summer has officially begun, and Newtown's beloved brewery, Young Henrys, along with their good mates at The Courty, are gearing up to throw the ultimate summer bash - the Newtown Street Party.

Following the success of last year's inaugural event, this year's street party promises to be bigger, better, and louder than ever before. On Saturday, December 2, from 1 pm to 8 pm, Eliza Street in Newtown will be the place to be for live music, cold tinnies, delicious food, and a whole lot of fun.

The Newtown Street Party is more than just a celebration of the first week of summer; it's also a tribute to Newtowner, the iconic beer that Young Henrys crafted in honor of Newtown's 150th birthday. This year, they are celebrating Newtowner's 12th birthday, and they plan to do it in style.

The lineup for this year's event is stacked with talent, featuring some of the best in rock and indie music.

Pub music champions Sweet Talk, 70’s groove maestros Greatest Hits, and indie-rock newcomers Salarymen will grace the stage. Joining them is RISSA, who will bring her R&B and gospel influences, while Lady Lyon will take the audience on a nostalgia-driven journey with cowgirl blues. Groove merchants Manfredo Lament and Evening Records DJs will also keep the party vibes alive, and more acts are yet to be announced.

Darcy Byrne, the Mayor of Inner West Council, expressed his excitement for the forthcoming event, saying: “The Courty and Young Henrys hosting a street party in Newtown – you don’t get more Inner West than that. I can’t wait to crack a tinny with the crowd to celebrate.”

For food enthusiasts, the renowned Mary's will be present, serving up their iconic burgers, ensuring that no one goes hungry during this day-long celebration. To quench your thirst, Young Henrys and The Courty will set up multiple pop-up bars, ensuring a steady flow of drinks to accompany the tunes.

Anne Kessler, General Manager of The Courty, added: "To continue our long-standing tradition of celebrating the birth of the old faithful Newtowner as well as Newtown and all the weird & wonderful she has to offer, the Courty and Young Henrys are returning to take over Eliza St on Saturday the 2nd of December. Expect ice cold tinnies, tasty tacos and live music, so ensure to wear your dancing shoes'

Meanwhile, Oscar Mcmahon, Young Henrys Co-Founder, shared the significance of the “Young Henrys and our mates at the Courthouse Hotel have been celebrating Newtown (the suburb) and Newtowner (the beer)'s birthdays together for 11 years now. It all started with the creation of Newtowner as a small batch beer to mark the 150th birthday of Newtown, grew to multiple attempts at breaking the Tinnie Crack World Record (with a mechanical tinnie bucking folks to boot) and has now outgrown the hallowed grounds of the Courty, spilling out into Eliza St in December for the 2nd Inaugural Newtown Street Party!!!"

He continues to say, “Newtown is a weird, wonderful and welcoming place and this free event invites all to come on down to shake a leg, high five your friends and make a few more to the sounds, sights and smells of what this great suburb has to offer. Party on people, party on!”

In addition to celebrating Newtowner's birthday and the start of summer, the Newtown Street Party is all about giving back to the community. This is a free-entry event with proceeds from donations going to the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, helping support the local community.

Be sure to mark your calendars, round up your friends, and get ready for an unforgettable day of music, food, and good times in the heart of Newtown this December 2nd. It's the perfect way to kickstart your summer and make a positive impact on the community while doing so.
