Stripping back its power, the Melbourne-based Woodes throws a darker spin on her most recent single..
Any chance we get to gloat about an Australian name is a chance we will live up, especially when it’s a name we long praised and supported. If you’ve been in tune with the scope of Australian music over the past 12-24 months, then you’ll know amongst a breadth of talented home grown names that the name Woodes has finally caught the attention of so many. Now based in Melbourne, the talented singer/songwriter appears to have continued her stretch of praise releasing a darker version of her huge 2017 hit Run For It. Pulling back its bullish and beating power, the night version of Run For It shifts the focus on the more dreamy and sonic sounds and adding a delicately beautiful saxophone number. The night version steers the hit into a more moody landscape, highlighting Woodes’ incredible vocal display.
"This year I had my piano moved down from Queensland to join me in my studio in Melbourne. It’s helped shift my process into a hybrid between my piano and my laptop," she says on the single. "Over a couple of nights in my studi, I started to piece together this version of Run For It. It was just me, my piano and my laptop. I love recording at night, no distractions. Getting lost in something until you need sleep. I got my friend Cayn Borthwick in on saxophone and then Simon Lam (of Kllo fame) to mix and master the track."
