Matt Corby: “I'm Happy Having A Little Cottage Business And Playing To People That Like It”

WAMFest Focus: Marksman Lloyd

Give us a short description of your music: Hip hop artist from Perth focussed on storytelling, party starting and saying something worth saying.
What is the best thing that’s happened to you/your band so far? I got a message two weeks ago saying a song I wrote called Seven Laps had helped someone struggling with suicidal thoughts. I couldn’t name an award or a gig more important than that.
Has the party side of the music industry been all you were hoping for so far in your career? My focus has always been the music. Anything else is subsidiary I think. It’s always been there but I’m super socially awkward anyway so I guess I’ve been on the outskirts of it.
What industry lessons would you like to take away from WAMFest? For an independent artist who has had to figure it out as I go I guess it comes down to the networking side of things. How best to approach that independently.
What acts are you looking forward to checking out at WAMFest? Elli Schoen, POW! Negro, Young Robin, Odette Mercy & Her Soul Atomics, LC Mckensie. Man, there is so much talent coming out of WA at the moment. Too many to name.
Why should people come and see you from amongst the many cool bands at WAMFest? I think our live set is the strongest it’s ever been. We’ve been doing it long enough to know exactly who we are on stage and that translates I think. Shirt is always drenched.
When and where is your WAMFest gig? 4 Nov, Forrest Chase
