Fresh Finds: Class Of 2025 – Aussie Acts To Add To Your Playlist

WAMCon Focus: Novac Bull (Boom! Bap! Pow!)

Novac Bull (Singer-songwriter, Boom! Bap! Pow!)

How did you first become involved in the music business and how did you end up where you are today? Through studying Music Industry Skills at Leederville TAFE 2000-2001 and consequently joining a band with guitarist Simon Bartlett which led to gigs and many other opportunities over the past 15 years.
What's been the biggest change in the music business you've seen over the past 12 months? An astonishing amount of new and exciting bands/artists/producers.
What do you think will be the biggest issue affecting the music industry in the next 12 months and why? So many capable and quality bands without a live performance platform due to lack of original music venues.
What advice would you give young practitioners in your area starting out today? Get amongst it and don't back down. Attend gigs, conferences and keep playing/writing/rehearsing/gigging like it's your life blood.
What's the secret to success in the music industry? Do what you love and do it well. Oh, and be kind.
What will you be primarily discussing during your appearance at the WAMCon? Syncing opportunities for bands and how having a manager can make life a lot easier.
What are you hoping that people will be able to learn from your panel/interview? That it is entirely okay to sell your music to corporations if it is being used in an above board manner and the agreement is one that is well considered and that you are happy with.
What do you personally hope to take away from your time at WAMCon? Knowledge in other areas of the music business that I have no idea about. Still learning so much about syncing and the opportunities/pit falls!
Which acts are you most looking forward to checking out at WAMFest? Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, Old Blood, John Bennett and Tobacco Rat.

Check out the WAMCon website for all the details.
