‘I Stay Out Of It. I Cook’: Even After 13 Years Between Albums, Coming Up With A Karnivool Setlist Remains Quite The Feat

VIDEO PREMIERE: On Diamond - Light

Folksy alt-pop five-piece On Diamond find themselves in the midst of a mediaeval battle in the fantastic clip for their slow-burning, emotive new single Light.

Director Sabina Maselli draws on the colourful costumes, props and personalities of the Melburnian Swordcraft community, whose involvement came about following a chance encounter in the filmmaker's local park.

"I imagined the protagonist in this song going through a magical transformation, trying to escape the noise of the world," she said. "I had come across Swordcraft players in my local park and I thought that this would make an ideal backdrop for this metamorphosis."

Certainly, as the protagonist, frontwoman and central songwriter Lisa Salvo is positioned as being blissfully unaware of the chaos unfolding around her — a fitting visual complement to the song's juxtaposition of understated tranquility set against persistent, insurgent discord and cacophony.

"Light is a special track for us," Salvo said in a statement. "The song is a solitary cry of desperation for not knowing if there is relief from the suffering being experienced. It's a common sentiment — the light at the end of the tunnel. Most of the time you can see or feel it but sometimes perspective disappears completely."

The single will be officially released this Friday, 4 August, through Eastmint Records/Gaga Digi.
