The latest music video from Californian-Melbournian indie pop artist El Tee, aka Lauren Tarver, is “dark, emotional and lonely”.

As Tarver explained to The Music, “The imagery that appears in my head when I play [Everything Is Fine] is being alone, physically and emotionally."

“I wanted to reflect that in the video,” she said. “But whilst being dark and emotional, the refrain 'everything is fine' is that voice of hope. It's almost a mantra – if you say it enough, it'll end up being true."

Premiering today via The Music, the Everything Is Fine music video was shot during COVID lockdown, with Tarver acting as director alongside cinematographer Daniel Cahill.

“I think creating art, whether that's music or another medium, can always be interesting if you work with what you have, or within certain limitations,” Tarver said.

“I don't know if we would've shot this video with the same concept if we had the ability to involve more people or shoot inside. But that's partially why I love it – it's a reflection of what we were able to work with that framed the concept and the aesthetic, and then lends a more singular and raw focus on the song and lyrics.”

Engineered and mixed by Andrew McEwan and mastered by Adam Dempsey, Everything Is Fine is the title track from El Tee's forthcoming debut album, set for release on September 18.
