We go through our top fives acts to see at 2014's LANEWAY FESTIVAL.
As you should all be aware by now, Laneway Festival have released their 2014 line up, which a lot of people have been rating as their best ever.
When you’ve got names such as CHVRCHES, LORDE, HAIM, DANNY BROWN, WARPAINT, JAMIE XX, MOUNT KIMBIE and many other big names on the one bill, it’s easy to see why that call isn’t as crazy as it sounds. We asked Tony Kingston to nail down five acts which he’ll definitely be looking forward to checking out at next year’s event.

MOUNT KIMBIE
What to expect: Quite a different listening experience to what you hear on CD, but in a very good way. Using a range of instruments on stage, MOUNT KIMBIE will definitely make people realise that ‘live’ electronic music still exists. For this particular performance I’m sure a lot of fans are hoping for an appearance by fellow Laneway Festival artist KING KRULE, who sings on their latest album.
Similar artists: Bonobo, Clark, Seekae
Key tracks: Made To Stray, Carbonated, Before I Move Off
JAGWAR MA
What to expect: An explosive live show with improvised jamming and an intense energy. I’ve seen JAGWAR MA three times already this year and they have blown me away on every occasion. Hopefully a live drummer is added to their show to allow for extra awesomeness!
Similar artists: Tame Impala, The Beach Boys, Lost Valentinos
Key tracks: Four, Man I Need, Come Save Me
FOUR TET
What to expect: His show in Sydney last year had people talking about it for ages and I’m positive his performances at Laneway Festival next year won’t be any different. One of the pioneers in the electronic music world today, FOUR TET creates a special type of atmosphere in the live setting, which will give people plenty of back tingles and goose bumps!
Similar artists: Pantha Du Prince, The Field, Gold Panda
Key tracks: Lion, Love Cry + brand new songs from his upcoming album ‘Beautiful Rewind’
EARL SWEATSHIRT
What to expect: As NAUGHTY RAPPERS COLLECTIVE/SPOD would say, expect rap music, rap music, r-r-ra-ra-ra-rap music and possibly one of the best shows of the genre you’ll ever witness!
Similar artists: Tyler The Creator, Danny Brown, Childish Gambino
Key tracks: Chum, Whoa, Earl
WARPAINT
What to expect: I’ve had their album ‘The Fool’ on my iPhone ever since its release in 2010. For these shows I’m sure we can all rely on impressive guitar riffs and unbelievable drumming by one of the best in the business, Stella Mozgawa.
Similar artists: Wild Nothing, Real Estate, Dum Dum Girls
Key tracks: Undertow, Bees + new yet to be released songs
