FisherEvery Friday, thousands of artists from across the globe release new music. It’s a lot to follow, week by week.
New Music Friday can be overwhelming, especially if you just want to hear a couple of singles here and there, and even more so if you’re trying to find new Australian music. That’s where The Music comes in.
With our weekly updated playlist, Friday Finds: This Week’s Best New Music, The Music’s team sifts through streaming services, social media, our inboxes, and elsewhere to find the best new homegrown music – and the occasional international track – to present you with five fresh new songs you need to hear.
This week, we’re focusing on dance and rock music, highlighting new tracks by FISHER, Bag Raiders and Meg Mac, C.O.F.F.I.N., Girl And Girl, and Muse featuring Ellie Goulding. Phew! Before you listen to each track, though, here’s a bit more info on each one:
FISHER – What A Life
He’s spun it live on some of the world’s biggest stages, including EDC Las Vegas, and now, FISHER’s What A Life is finally here. With singer/songwriter Florence Arman providing some euphoric storytelling for the party-starting banger, it’s a track you need to add to your playlist ASAP.
Bag Raiders & Meg Mac – Break My Heart

Bag Raiders have transcended generations with their 2000s hit, Shooting Stars, and with Break My Heart featuring Meg Mac, they’re looking to continue that legacy. The new track is built around Jimi Polo’s 1989 number, Better Days, and has been on the way since premiering it at this year’s Field Day Festival.
“There’s such a fun throwback, party NRG to this tune,” Bag Raiders said. “Put it on, turn it up and dance the heartbreak away.”
C.O.F.F.I.N. – Sleep In It
With Sleep In It, the highly anticipated new track from C.O.F.F.I.N. finds the band trading their typical fast-paced stylings for something more cinematic. They explain, “It’s about the consequence of a lopsided life and a longing for relationships with yourself and others to feel nourished and full. Fronting the fields you’ve failed to tend to.”
Girl and Girl – It’s Dead
It’s Dead – and another track released today, Hell – arrive during a prolific period for Australian garage-rock outfit Girl And Girl. The former is a visceral song about, to put it plainly, death. Frontman Kai James said, “We’re always hinting at death in our music, talking about it in such roundabout ways, so I thought it was about time I just came out and said it … IT’S DEAD !!!!”
Muse & Ellie Goulding – Hush
Muse and Ellie Goulding are an unlikely pairing, but it’s one that really works. Hush features on Muse’s just-released tenth album, The WOW! Signal, and it’s absolutely a highlight, seamlessly blending pop and rock.
As they share harmonies in the chorus, Matt Bellamy and Ellie Goulding’s voices call for hope in the middle of an apocalyptic event. Soaring piano and guitar riffs make for a surprising, peak Muse track.
