At the tail-end of last week, news came through seemingly hinting at the long-awaited return to Tame Impala. It came in the form of a video posted to the band's website, which featured Kevin Parker toying around in his studio while a presumably unreleased Tame Impala song plays in the background, finishing with "The Slow Rush" - at the time believed to be the name of their Currents follow-up - and the year 2020, signalling that the record's arrival should come some time in the next 14 months.
Now, however, we have confirmation. The Slow Rush, Tame Impala's long-awaited returning album, will arrive on Valentine's Day - February 14th - next year, bringing with it 12 tracks (as Google Play reports) of Tame Impala goodness including their swirling Borderline released a few months back and Kevin's new single, It Might Be Time, which arrives today alongside the album's official announcement (interesting side note: Patience, which was Tame's first single since Currents, is seemingly a stand-alone track that won't feature on the record).
It Might Be Time takes the hazy indie-pop roots of Borderline and flips it on its head, injecting that heavy psych-rock lean that marked Kevin Parker's early work though ricocheting drum breaks and washed-away guitar riffs that really feel at home with the ferocity that came to define Currents and how Tame Impala have evolved and experimented in the time since. It's potent psych-rock with that signature, Kevin Parker Midas touch that only he can pull off, and opens up a hint of versatility when compared to the slick refinement of the singles that have come before it.

"A lot of the songs carry this idea of time passing, of seeing your life flash before your eyes, being able to see clearly your life from this point onwards," told Kevin Parker to The New York Times earlier this year, dissecting the album at its then-state. "I’m being swept by this notion of time passing. There’s something really intoxicating about it."
